Why Do Rappers always mention Cali,New York, and ATL in thier songs...and never mention D.C or Maryland!!?

Im not complaining...just wondering... Are like...no rappers from The D.C area? And is D.C really the only place that plays Go-Go music on the radio?

Because in the hip-hop world, you don't have many heavyweights that come from those areas. They may have been born in those areas but they moved to major cities where they know that hip hop is really famous and where they are most likely to be heard for example: Eminem comes from Detroit and did small shows and battle raps around there. He bounced from job to job to make money to raise his daughter and to do shows. He eventually made it into California to a show. Weeks later, he's found by major produces Dr. Dre. It's just wherever they got their big break into the business of hip hop. The only hip hop groups or artists that I know that don't come from the major hip hop cities are: Little Brother from North Carolina and Chris Brown from Virginia, among others. I hope that answers your question on that and the go-go music, I couldn't help you there.

Reply:Well, I think it is because that area is famous for the WONDERFUL NeoSoul sound. I would visit that area anytime if I could see some of the famous artists from that area. Rap is cool but NeoSoul is whats up in my book!

Reply:Depends on the Rapper, listen to more local music and you will notice that they mention P.G. and Georgetown.
Reply:Because D.C. %26amp; Maryland aren't perceived "gangsta" or hardcore enough. ATL isnt either, but they got their own style, with all the stripjoints and clubs. All About image, D.C. is to the rest of the nation is all politics and Maryland, well no one remembers Maryland.

Dont hear much local stuff other than D.O.G dunno why. And what is Go-Go music? I know its big down in VA gimme an example. Lemme guess your from PG county?
