Did your system detect the new drive? Did you format it? If so then what drive is it called? It has to be a letter.

C: is first hard drive (one that is inside and came with system)

D: is either second hard drive or a partition on first or your CD or DVD drive.

If you installed external drive properly it should have become D: and your CD/DVD moved to E: Also if other partitions then they would follow the new drive as it becomes D: by default of operating system design (unless they changed that).

So assuming that you did it right and can see the drive, you actually have to make some folders on the new drive and move some files over to it into the folders. Then you have to go inot your programs and open and save to the new drive and folders. They do not automatically use the new drive as they were setup to use the C: drive.

Note that many games and such can only use the drive they were installed to to save games etc. Many programs also will only install to C: and this causes many problems with space as well. So you'll have to do a little work to move the files and make programs look to the new drive.

Word pro and spreasheets and databases are easy to move your files and make look at new drive. Also photo programs and such can look to new drive easily. You can make your downloads goto the new drive easily as well by changing the default folder to the newdrive:\folder, etc.
Reply:hey thank but i format it right. but the leter of the new external harddrive is (K: is that right. and what happens after i format it plz right back Report It
