I want to gut the old system (not sure what works and what doesnt so im replacing everything) I need a list of all major components. So far on the list i have A/C compressor, air filter drier, evaporator, condensor....is that all I will need? The heat works great its just my a/c compressor was locking up and I was told it was doing that because of some of the other parts so i just unhooked my compressor so it spins freely. In order to get my A/C back what other components will I need. Thanks
I have a 2000 jeep cherokee that needs a new A/C system?
In the first place you are going to to much expense and trouble. in order to replace the evaporator core you need to pull the dash. All that needs to be done is - evac the system - flush the system - replace the compressor and drier - vacuum the system add oil and recharge. That should run you about 850 to 1000 dollars - where as doing it your way even by you doing everything would cost more in time and parts and you may not have the proper equipment. good luck
Reply:Jack is correct. You don't want to tear the dash apart if it can be avoided. One additional thing that might be needed is the orifice tube. I have that on my pick-up but am uncertain if your Jeep has that or not. Compressor and drier are always replaced together. The reason is that when the compressor goes bad it may have dumped metal into the system and those shards and shavings are caught by the drier. A new compressor without changing the drier would be quickly ruined by those metal fragments if the drier was not replaced at the same time.
Replace the compressor and drier evacuate and recharge the system and you should be good to go. Hope this helped explain what needs to be done and why. Good Luck.
Reply:A 2000 jeep I would check my warrantee to see if anything is still covered by the dealerships, as in Canada they are warranteed to 117000 km the years i am not sure of. Its worth a try.
